When recurring billing is turned on for a Microsoft subscription, you’ll be billed for your subscription on your renewal date.

  1. Sign in to Services & subscriptions with your Microsoft account. If you have more than one Microsoft account, make sure you're signing in with the one that applies to the subscription you want to set up recurring billing for.

  2. Locate the subscription you'd like to set up with recurring billing.

    • Note: If you can't find it on the list, it might be a subscription from a third party, such as Apple or Best Buy. Contact them directly for managing your subscription and billing.

  3. Select Turn on recurring billing.

    • If you see an upcoming payment date next to your subscription, you already have recurring billing turned on and you don’t have to do anything else.

    • If your subscription has already expired, select Renew to renew your subscription. Recurring billing will be turned on automatically when you renew your subscription.

    • If you see Paid with pre-paid card next to the subscription expiration date, you paid for the subscription with a pre-paid code and you can't turn on recurring billing. You can buy a new one at Microsoft Store when the subscription expires.

  4. Check your inbox for an email that confirms recurring billing. If you don't see it in your inbox, check your junk mail or spam folder.

Turn Recurring billing off or on

If you pay by credit card or bank account, Recurring billing is turned on by default. When Recurring billing is on, your subscription will continue to be billed each year on the day you subscribed. You can turn it off or back on again in the admin center if your subscription is active.

If you prepaid for your subscription with a product key, your subscription will expire at the end of subscription term. You can turn on Recurring billing and provide credit card or bank account information so that your subscription will continue to be billed every year on the day you subscribed. You also have the option to pay every month, or to pay for the entire year up front. Your credit card or bank account will not be charged until your initial subscription term has expired.

  1. In the admin center, go to the Billing > Your products page.
  1. Select the subscription for which you want to manage recurring billing.

  2. On the subscription details page, under Subscription and payment settings, select Edit recurring billing.

  3. In the Edit recurring billing settings pane, select On, On, but renew once, or Turn off.

  4. Select Save.

    Note

    • You can only change the Recurring billing setting for active subscriptions. If your subscription has already expired or is disabled, you will need to reactivate it before you can turn Recurring billing on or off.
    • When Recurring billing is turned off, the subscription isn't cancelled. If you want to keep the subscription active, you must pay the bill manually.
    • If you turn off Recurring billing, the subscription remains active until it expires. You can view the expiration date on the subscription details page in the Subscription and payment settings section.
